I can't wait to show them to my kids if/when I have a family. uniquely amazing for me, so full of life, so funny and bright. Why did that happen? I am trying to be eloquent here to explain my point, but the Atlantis and others are. Then we have the same expressive style but without 3D made from 1991 to ~2000 - Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, etc, with the exception of Toy Story 1&2 and The Bug's Life.īut then, soon after 2000 when we already had Toy Story 1&2 and The Bug's Life, we are starting to get Dinosaur, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and almost exclusively after that, the shift went to full 3D.
I pay attention to these five because they all have the combination of highly expressive 2D animation and slight 3D - Atlantis, Treasure Planet, The Iron Giant utilizing this combo the most and all of them being 100% in the same style and character animation/effects. Every time I rewatch them, time stops, and I am a grinning kid with a head full of heroic adventures again. My childhood is shaped by Atlantis, Tarzan, Treasure Planet, The Iron Giant, Aladdin - almost exclusively these five.
